The waters of the Great Lakes have the power to restore our soul. Harnessing that power depends on our ability to get to those special places and having the resources to allow us to stay and play. Building on the November, 2012 Lake Michigan Trails Conference, this conference will apply the trimodal approach to planning trails around the entire Great Lakes system integrating a paddling route and bicycle routes with the Great Lakes Circle Tours, making the region a worldclass recreational touring destination.
The conference’s ultimate goal is to share expertise, data and vision while providing a unified approach to water trail planning and implementation, building trails and bike routes and reconstituting the Circle Tour based on economic development and tourism connections.
Who should attend?
Federal, State, Regional, County, and local recreation, tourism, and economic development professionals, trail users and trail groups interested in the creation of a sea kayak route around the shores of Great Lakes system, and the extension and completion of U.S. Bicycle Routes around the Lakes.
Registration is free and includes two lunches and conference materials (thanks to grant support from Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Coastal Zone Management Program)
This project was funded, in part, by the Michigan Coastal Zone Management Program, Department of Environmental Quality Office of the Great Lakes and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce.
